From the Sandhills of Western Nebraska...

Audrey Hebbert remembers the stories she heard growing up in the Sandhills of western Nebraska. Her father told tales from his early years amidst gales of laughter around the big dining table three times a day. Her grandfather and the entire Hebbert clan spun yarns about the early homestead days and anything from riding a stumbling horse to sliding on the ice with a 300-pound man in a Model T.

She learned to find a story in almost any life event. Many of Audrey's short stories are based upon her experiences in the desolate, idyllic Sandhills. Someday she hopes to write a book based there.

To a lifetime career

Ranch work is difficult and time consuming, but Audrey found time to read, ride horses and enjoy the out-of-doors. Her love of reading soon led to the need for writing, and she was published from high school on. Her busy life and responsibilities slowed the pen until she retired in 1998.

She spent twenty years teaching, among other things, high school home economics and English, preschool, adult reading, English as a second language, and child care principles. She owned an ice cream shop, a quilting studio and a business support service.

Audrey wrote a newspaper column for two years and she has seen publication of many short stories, articles and devotionals. Her first book, Dirt Bike Rider, is being marketed at the present time. It is a tale for 9-12 year olds about her grandson Josh's motocross riding and racing. Readers will experience the motocross track with its obstacles and challenges. They'll cheer, too, when Josh makes the checkered flag and everyone celebrates. Keep checking back for the publication date.

Audrey’s second book, Green Light Red Light, for anyone ages 11-99, became available in November 2007. Order it from bookstores or the website. Better yet, Google the title with my name and discover for yourself just how far this book has traveled in less than a year.

Deciding what's important

As a child, Audrey and her family attended a rural Sunday School where she entered into a relationship with Jesus Christ that brought peace, joy and faith. Click on the www.stepuptolife.com link for more information about this relationship for yourself.

Audrey's primary prayer since 1976 has been Psalm 25:4, "Lord, show me your ways. Teach me how to follow you." God has answered that prayer in many ways, and now her current passions are writing, praying for others, and mentoring/discipling young believers.
